European 112 Day & the launch of the 112 Air Campaign!
On European 112 Day 2015, 11 February, European Parliament Vice-President, Mrs. Adina-Ioana Valean, in cooperation with the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) launched a campaign that aims at raising awareness of the European emergency number 112 among travellers around Europe. Airports and airlines are invited to display promotional material in key areas, including departure gates, information desks and exits for airports, and in-flight magazines, websites and brochures for airlines. Airlines were also invited to make an announcement when landing informing passengers about 112.
Organisations quickly embraced the cause, greatly benefiting people's safety and well-being, and for this we greatly thank them!
Moreover, different activities took place everywhere around Europe by a variety of organisations, with the purpose of raising awareness of the European emergency number 112. This year, EENA suggested that the "False calls" issue could be highlighted: all emergency services are affected by false emergency calling. False emergency calls divert emergency services away from people who may be in life-threatening situations and who need urgent help. This can mean the difference between life and death for someone in trouble. False emergency calls are also an expensive problem because emergency services need to multiply their resources to assure they are not being overloaded by inappropriate calls and therefore may not be able to respond to real emergencies.
We would like to thank everyone who worked hard everywhere in Europe to promote the European emergency number 112 and raise awareness amongst people.
