What is the EENA?EENA, the European Emergency Number Association, is a Brussels-based NGO set up in 1999 dedicated to promoting high-quality emergency services reached by the number 112 throughout the EU. EENA serves as a discussion platform for emergency services, public authorities, decision makers, associations and solution providers in view of improving emergency response in accordance with citizens' requirements. EENA is also promoting the establishment of an efficient system for alerting citizens about imminent or developing emergencies. The EENA memberships include about 600 emergency services representatives from 42 European countries, 41 solution providers, 9 international associations/organisations as well as 26 Members of the European Parliament. What the EENA does:EENA advocates: EENA advocates to authorities the issues related to the 112 and public warning based on citizens' requirements. EENA brings individuals and organisations together: The EENA Advisory Board gathers politicians, associations, international organisations and solution providers in view of improving the whole 112 chain. The 112 Emergency Services Staff Network (112 ESSN) gathers individuals working for emergency services or relevant public authorities in order to foster sharing of experience and best practices. The MEPs 112 Champions is a network of Members of the European Parliament committed to promote better emergency communications for citizens. EENA organises events: Every year, EENA organises the 112 Awards Ceremony to congratulate individuals and organisations contributing to the improvement of the 112 and emergency communications. EENA also organises Roundtables on the 112 in European countries in view of fostering sharing of best practices and providing national stakeholders with a roadmap. EENA also gathers emergency services and stakeholders during yearly Workshops on 112. EENA works on technical issues: The EENA and its Members work on defining requirements and performances indicators for emergency services in the 112 Operations and the NG112 Committees. EENA participates to EU funded projects: The EENA is participating to EU projects in order to promote the citizens requirements in the field of emergency communication. EENA raises awareness on the 112: The EENA is promoting the 112 in the media. In collaboration with the EENA Advisory Board, EENA created the 112 Foundation that focuses on educating citizens about the existence and use of the 112. EENA manages citizens' feedbacks: The EENA is at the disposal of citizens willing to report on their experience with the 112. EENA makes sure that citizens' feedbacks are considered by the relevant institutions at local, national or European level. EENA can serve as consultant: Being regularly consulted by governments and national authorities, EENA can participate to specific projects concerning the implementation and/or improvement of a 112 system in a country or region. EENA is also available to advise, review and comment on feasibility studies by bringing its expertise on the legal, operational and technical aspects of 112 and emergency services.It should be noted that EENA will not respond to call for tenders on its own but rather advise respondents (e.g. consultancies). EENA's objective is to make sure that national/regional projects are in line with citizens' requirements, best practices, EU standards and regulations.
