She learnt about the European Emergency Number 112 when she met EENA in December 2006, and right after proposed her help to help publicize the number in Europe. She was one of the co-authors of the Written Declaration and attended two press conferences at the European Parliament on the number 112. She also coordinated an information campaign back to her home UK Region.

Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?
"All EU citizens should know that the emergency number 112 exists and how to use it. This is necessary in case of an accident and can save lives. At the same time, the proper protection of citizens' privacy in case of unsolicited localisation by law enforcement must prevail and I will see to it that this features in the review of the telecoms regulation currently under way."

The European Emergency Number is a step toward the european integration. The Number provides the same service for the 492 million of european citizens. In this way, equity regarding security for all citizens is better guaranteed.
Romania
MEP Adina Ioana VALEAN, Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe
Region: Ms Adina Valean represents Romania (according to the Romanian law, there is only one circumscription at national level).
Email Adress: adinaioana.valean@europarl.europa.eu
Tel: +32 (0)2 28 45861 (Brussels) and +33 (0)3 88 1 75861 (Strasbourg)
Website: www.valean.eu
Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?
Considering the citizens' safety a priority for her work, Ms Valean has been, from the very beginning of her mandate as MEP (in January 2007), one of the members of the initiative group who supported the WRITTEN DECLARATION 0044/2007 on the European Emergency Call Number.
In order to better promote the European Emergency Call Number, Ms Valean also organized a press conference (that took place on February the 6th 2007) at the European Parliament. The aim of this press conference was to gather the 1 million signatures that 112 needed in order to be promoted at European level.
Additionally to that, Ms Adina Valean also had a speech at the 1st European Security and Safety Summit (that took place on 6-7 June 2007, in Brussels) about the necesity to have a better regulation regarding data protection.
Nevertheless, she had several meetings with the representatives of the Romanian Gouvernement (and the Ministry of Health) in order to work out together an action plan that would better inform and educate the population on the topic of the 112 use and role.
Ireland
MEP Kathy Sinnott, Independence/Democracy Group
Email Adress: kathy.sinnott@europarl.europa.eu
Tel: +32 (0)2 28 45692 (Brussels) and +33 (0)3 88 1 75692 (Strasbourg)
Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?
"In Europe, there is a single emergency number available in every Member State, the 112. How is it possible than 2/3 of Europeans still do not know a number that can save their lives? Since its creation in 1991, no evaluation has been conducted at European level in order to understand the loopholes and the needs for improvements. I have been supporting and working on improvements for people with disabilities but in case of emergency we are all potentially disabled people. Are children taught how to use the 112? Are emergency services in Europe able to answer their requests? Are they able to send rescue to deaf persons or people speaking another language?"
Finland
MEP Piia-Noora Kauppi, European People's Party and European Democrats
Email Adress: piia-noora.kauppi@europarl.europa.eu
Tel: +32 (0)2 28 45894 (Brussels) and +33 (0)3 88 1 75894(Strasbourg)
Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?
"The Universal Service Directive provides for the obligation of Member States to «ensure that calls to the single European emergency call number "112" are appropriately answered and handled ...». In Finland we have standards for the maximal intervention time of emergency services, for multilingual support of answering calls and our operators follow an extensive one year training to be able to cope with their stressful job. I hear that in other countries this is not the case. This clearly means that Finnish people and their Scandinavian neighbours who apply similar standards are less well protected when visiting some of the other EU states. This is unacceptable by all means and the Commission should certainly do something about it."
Belgium
MEP Alain Hutchinson, Socialist Group in the European Parliament
Email Adress: alain.hutchinson@europarl.europa.eu
Tel: +32 (0)2 28 45451(Brussels) and +33 (0)3 88 1 75451(Strasbourg)
Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?

Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?
"112 emergency service is essential for the safety and security of the citizens and it has to be available for all of us - children and old people, people in disabilities, citizens lining in big cities but in a small remote villages as well. This service has to effective in sense of support for the citizens in need, but financially as well. It is great opportunity public authority to prove that serve to the citizens anytime and everywhere. Quality of this service has to be symbol of the quality of life for Europeans. For Bulgaria as a new EU member this service could be a symbol of a new level of organization for interagency cooperation, use of high tech and care for the citizens."

Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?
"The freedom of movement is essential to the Union. But if we move, we all face with the fact that we can get into trouble abroad. As MEP I decided to live in 3 different countries at one time. I brought my children with me and undertook the responsibility of my decision. For me the principle of freedom of movement is extended as the freedom of safe movement. Any European citizen should have the confidence that no matter where he is, is still able to call for help by 112 and will get the help needed."

Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?
"I am an MEP 112 Champion, because every EU citizen who visits another Member State of the Union should have an access to national emergency services as fast and simple as possible.

Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?
"It's important that our citizens travelling on the European territory, for the most different reasons, can enjoy the same level of protection as on their own Member State, in case they are victims of a serious illness, a car accident or any type of crime.
That's why I fully support the need of a European emergency call number (112), in order to provide the victims with appropriate assistance, at the place of emergency, as soon as possible.
I'm proud of contributing for the awareness of citizens regarding the existence and the possibility of use of this emergency number".

Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?
"The 112 emergency number represents to me the essence of the idea of the European Union - full integration and unity. Every single citizen can dial this number in case of emergency in every single EU member state and receive assistance. In my home town, for example, just recently a 4 year old boy has saved his mother's life by dialling this number. I am very proud that thanks to this initiative the EU can serve its citizens better and make us all feel equally well protected both at home and abroad."

Why am I an MEP 112 Champion?
"I was one of the first MEPs to support the 112 to the European Commission, since 2004, and I will continue to advocate in my own country too the importance of the assistance that this emergency number can provide. I come from a country that welcomes a significant amount of tourists yearly. It is therefore our duty, to our own citizens too, to do what we can to support and develop 112 in all Europe."
