112 Awards Ceremony 2013

The 112 Awards Ceremony, which is run in conjunction with the EU Emergency Services Workshop, recognises and rewards some of the emergency services and citizens for their outstanding achievements in improving and promoting the European emergency number 112. The selection procedure consists of two stages. During the first stage, proposals from all over Europe falling into the seven different categories are assessed against rigorous criteria by a panel of 5 independent juries, experts in the emergency services field. Two applications in each category are preselected and the final selection is performed through direct vote by the members of the 112 Emergency Services Staff Network.
The 112 Awards 2013 were delivered to individuals and organisations in the following categories:
Outstanding Call-Taker and Rescue
Recognizes a call taker or dispatcher who has contributed to save a life or several lives by handling an extraordinary call to 112.
The award went to:
- The life of a young girl saved thanks to the handling of a particularly tricky call to 112, Ms. Slavomíra Korduliaková, Coordinating Centre of Integrated Rescue System of Zilina, Slovakia
Outstanding Citizen
Recognizes individuals who have saved lives or properties by calling 112.
The award went to:
- A bus driver saves lives from a fire - Sergey Paramonov, Latvia
- The little heroe and rescuer - Mateusz Lesniewicz, Poland
Outstanding eCall
Rewards public authorities that have deployed the pan-European eCall in their country.
The award went to:
- Successful eCall pilot implementation and testing, Croatia
Outstanding Education on 112
Rewards organisation(s) or institution(s) that have demonstrated clear results in raising awareness on 112 as the emergency number that can be used all over the EU.
The award went to:
- Continuously involved in 112 campaigns targeting European citizens!, Romania
Outstanding Emergency Call Center
Rewards an emergency call centre that has achieved clear results for citizens' safety.
The award went to:
- The Netherlands Northern Region Emergency Call Centre, One view, One visison..., The Netherlands
Outstanding National 112 System
Rewards national organisation(s) or institution(s) that have implemented an efficient 112 system, considering technical and operational results. Applicants are expected to provide figures showing the impact on citizens' safety.
The award went to:
- The Emergency Response Centre Administration, Finland
Outstanding NG112 initiative
Rewards an initiative from emergency services that contribute to the take up of Next Generation 112, in particular with regards to the improvement of the access to 112 with additional media such as text messaging and video.
The award went to:
- Grenoble University Hospital, Next Generation communication solutions: French deaf people can access to emergency services - France
