The EENA Next Generation 112 Long Term Definition ("NG112 LTD") standard was released on 11 April 2012. To ensure global interoperability, EENA has re-used existing standards as much as possible. In particular, the work from the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) has been adapted to European Public Safety Answering Points. The NG112 LTD document defines a long-term architecture for European Emergency Services and remains voluntarily close to NENA i3 standard. The document provides the necessary elements to design a modern and efficient emergency calls management process, where citizens can reach 112 with voice, text, videos and pictures and where data can be shared to facilitate the intervention of first responders . . . . The document on "eCall" was released in April. . . . . . For more information, please contact Cristina Lumbreras at cl@eena.org EP Own initiative report on eCall . As the voluntary deployment of eCall has so far been insufficient, the European Commission decided last year to take legislative action for its mandatory introduction, with the aim of having a fully functional EU-wide service in place by 2015. According to the Commission this new "mandatory approach" should include a set of legislative and non-legislative measures falling within the remit of the IMCO and TRAN Committees (European Parliament). . .
